Musical instruments as a symbol.

Recently a dear friend, Mona, gifted a lap harp to me. Harps have heralded to me since first playing one while visiting Jerusalem in the early 1980's. Many times they have reached out to me and now, with great joy, I have my own. Each day I play both with and at it. Now I am taking a class in Healing Harp that is offered through a local hospital's education outreach program.

There is much symbolism in music and the instruments to which we are drawn. No, I do not have a musical background. And that is not important. Because when a symbol calls to us and we listen and respond all we need is there. This is part of the power of symbols and how they call to each of us. This has been a strong re-membering for me of listening and responding to the call of a symbol.

My purpose is just to please my soul. In being drawn to the harp I did not know what the symbolism had in store for me. Now, as we are getting to know one another I can feel my spirit smile softly with each note. Each note is a breath. Each of my inhales and exhales heralds a note. It is my symbiotic music.

The symbol was there - calling to me. It is important to listen and respond to our symbols. Now, one of mine is calling and wants to be strummed.
